DeShari Ashanti Avionna (Gillis) Nails

De’Shari Ashanti Avionna Gillis-Nails, lovingly known as “Dede,” of Baxley, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2026, at the age of 23. Born on September 25, 2002, in Jesup, Georgia, De’Shari brought light and joy to all who were blessed to know her. Her radiant smile, kind heart, and unwavering faith in God will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and community.

De’Shari was the cherished daughter of Steven Gillis and Kande Smith, and the wife of Tamarick Nails. Family was the center of De’Shari’s world, and she found her greatest joy in spending time with her loved ones—especially her niece, Brae, who held a special place in her heart.

A proud graduate of Appling County High School, Class of 2021, De’Shari was voted “Most Witty” by her classmates—a fitting title for someone whose quick humor and joyful spirit could brighten any room. During her high school years, she cheered passionately for the Pirates and also showcased her determination and team spirit as a member of the school’s track team. After graduation, De’Shari continued her studies at Valdosta State University, where she pursued her dreams with determination and optimism.

Professionally, De’Shari answered a special calling to serve others through her work as a 911 Dispatcher. Her coworkers and the community alike recognized her calm strength, compassion, and dedication to helping those in need, even in their hardest moments.

A faithful member of Oak Grove Church of God, De’Shari’s love for the Lord was evident in her actions. She served joyfully in the youth ministry, helped feed the homeless, and found fulfillment in spreading God’s word to all who crossed her path. Her spiritual devotion and generosity of spirit left a lasting impression on her church family and community.

De’Shari was known for her vibrant, free-spirited personality. She loved the Georgia Bulldogs, traveling to new places, connecting with people everywhere she went, and enjoying her favorite nutritional tea shops. She also had a deep love for music that touched her soul and those around her. No matter what she was doing, her bubbly energy and kind heart made everyone feel welcome and loved.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, laughter, and love.
